Ekadashi that falls during the Shukla Paksha (the period of the brightening moon) in the month of ‘Shravana’ is celebrated as Shravan Putrada Ekadashi. It is also known as “Pavitra Ekadashi”. Shravan Putrada Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is observed by a couple, to be blessed with a son. ‘Putrada’ signifies ‘giver of sons’ and hence it is believed that observing the Ekadashi fast in the month of Shravan fulfills the desires of a male child.
Besides this, devotees observe the Ekadashi fast to wash off their sins and attain salvation.
Also, who fast on this day are considered to get rid of malefic planetary influences, experience happiness, and gain the right peace of mind.
Eating of grains, pulses, rice, onion, and non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited on Shravan Putrada Ekadashi. The fast begins on Dashami, and the onlooker must eat only Saatvik food. Complete celibacy is observed on Dashami night. No food is eaten from the morning of Ekadashi till the crack of dawn of ‘Dwadashi. The Vrata is broken after the puja rituals and offering food to a valued Brahmin.
- Take a bath in the early morning. After that, keep an idol of Lord Vishnu in the temple and do the “Jalaabhishek”.
- Put Tilak of “Chandan” (sandalwood) on Lord Vishnu.
- Light a dhoop or agarbatti (incense stick) and offer rice, Abir, flower, roli,fruits or sweets (Make sure the sweet should be yellow).
Chant the Mantra and pray to the god, Mantra: “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”
